The NSBE Mentorship Program, launched by McGill’s chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) in Winter 2024, is a dynamic initiative designed to uplift and support Black students as they transition into university life. Starting with a one-week recruitment process in early February, we successfully matched seven mentees; six in engineering and one in medicine; with dedicated mentors who provided personalized guidance throughout the semester. The program kicked off with an engaging in-person introduction meetup where mentors and mentees connected, discussed their goals, and developed strategies for success. Over the course of the term, participants met bi-weekly, either online or in person, building strong relationships that helped mentees navigate their academic challenges. The NSBE Mentorship Program, launched by McGill’s chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) in Winter

stop there; mentors continued to assist mentees throughout the summer, helping them prepare for job searches and plan their fall semester. Now, as we look ahead, we’re excited to expand the program to CEGEP students this fall, extending our mentorship reach to younger students navigating the early stages of their academic journeys. Through hands-on guidance, regular meetings, and unique networking opportunities, the NSBE Mentorship Program is committed to fostering a community where Black students can thrive, excel academically, and confidently shape their future careers. Recruitment for our second cohort begins in october, and we’re eager to welcome more students into this transformative experience
